The deal significantly bolsters The Weather Company’s global mobile audience.
IBM and Samsung have joined forces to bring what they claim is world’s most accurate weather data to select Android smartphones.
The two companies have signed an agreement that will make The Weather Company the native weather data provider on Samsung devices, starting with the South Korean firms’ Galaxy S8 smartphone.
The deal will include powering Samsung’s weather widget and weather executions on select Samsung Android and Tizen products.
As part of the deal, The Weather Channel App for Android will be promoted globally in the Galaxy App Store.
The deal expands The Weather Company’s global mobile audience, allowing to reach hundreds of millions of further smartphone users in the next few years.
Last year, The Weather Channel created an exclusive weather experiences through an app designed for the Samsung Galaxy smartphones, including the Galaxy S7 edge, S6 edge+ and Note 5.
The Weather Channel App for Samsung is available via the Samsung Galaxy Apps store. The co-developed app was expanded to other platforms including Gear S2, tablets, SmartTVs and more.
The Weather Channel is part of the Made for Samsung programme, and the app is in the Galaxy Apps and Gear Apps stores.

The Weather Company delivers about 37 billion forecasts daily. Its products include a weather app that runs on all major mobile platforms globally and the world’s largest network of personal weather stations.
